History

Khairagarh, the princely state with the largest area during the princely period – Khairagarh, a city established at the confluence of Pipariya, Muska and Amner rivers in place of the capital Kholwa by Khadgaraya, a descendant of Lakshminidhirai, the founder of the Nagvanshi dynasty, and got its name due to the abundance of Khair trees. Apart from being the birthplace of Padumlal Punnalal Bakshi, the prominent litterateur of the Dwivedi era, Khairagarh is also the center of his primary education. Chhattisgarh Folk singer Padmashree Mokshada Chandrakar (Mamata Chandrakar) is the current Vice Chancellor of Indira Kala Sangeet University, Khairagarh. The first Vice Chancellor of Indira Arts and Music University was renowned musician Padmabhushan Dr. Krishna Narayan Ratanjankar. Famous writer and poet Dr. Jeevan Yadu (Rahi) is of Khairagarh origin.
Limestone and minor minerals are available in Khairagarh area, along with this minerals like quartzite, silica, sand, brick, clay are available. The main mineral available in the Chhuikhadan area is limestone.
